Kathak-A presentation by Mohit Shridhar.

Returning to the dance stage at Rang-e-Hyderabad, Mohit Shridhar presents a work anchored in generational lineage of the Jaipur Gharana. This performance is a vivid exploration of the dynamic grammar of Kathak, where ancestral heritage finds a fresh voice through lived practice. It is a seamless fusion of temporal cadence and vital energy—a transition from historic roots to the vibrant pulse of the modern stage.

Witness a command over intricate layakari and footwork, where every sequence is defined by precision and a rigorous discipline. Here, Kathak moves beyond the aesthetic into a vital dialogue of clarity and depth—offering a definitive encounter with the rhythmic fire of the Jaipur tradition.

'రంగ్-ఏ-హైదరాబాద్' వేదికపై మోహిత్ శ్రీధర్ కథక్ నృత్యాన్ని అద్భుతంగా ఆవిష్కరించనున్నారు. ఏడు తరాలుగా వస్తున్న 'జైపూర్ ఘరానా' సంప్రదాయానికి చెందిన వీరు, తమ పూర్వీకుల నుండి వచ్చిన ఈ గొప్ప కళను నేటి తరానికి తగ్గట్టుగా సరికొత్తగా ప్రదర్శిస్తారు.

Part of Rang-e-Hyderabad, this performance situates Kathak within a contemporary context where rhythm, movement, and narrative unfold with a mastered balance of structure and
flow. Weaving traditional roots into a language that feels both immediate and evocative,Mansi Modi invites the audience into a space where the classical body becomes a site of
storytelling, capturing the form’s beauty through a lens of creative freedom.

A distinguished exponent and creative entrepreneur with over two decades of experience,Mansi is a devoted disciple of the legendary Padma Vibhushan Smt. Kumudini Lakhia. Her
journey at Kadamb as a lead performer and faculty, paired with her M.Phil in Dance, brings a research-driven depth to her artistry. Having graced global stages from the Khajuraho
Festival to NMACC Mumbai, Mansi also spearheads D-Dancing Street, where she bridges classical rigour with diverse movement styles to ensure the arts remain a vibrant, living
presence today.

Odissi

A presentation by Avijit Kundu.

Joining the stage at Rang-e-Hyderabad, this performance brings Odissi into a deeply personal space—where the classical body holds memory, resistance, and becoming. Avijit’s journey began against the grain; arriving at the dance later in life, he navigated conventional barriers with quiet
persistence. In this presentation, Odissi transcends its structure to become a skillful integration of lineage and resilience—a transformative journey where art exceeds the physical to offer a profound expression of fluidity in form and spirit.

Avijit Kundu is a dancer, author, and educator whose life bridges a career in Physics and Mathematics with an ardent devotion to Odissi. His path was shaped by stalwarts including Guru Dr.Mahua Mukhopadhyay, Guru Smt. Nandini Ghoshal, Smt. Preeti Mohapatra, and Smt. Asha Kumari.

Having graced national stages from Shantiniketan to the Theatre Olympiad, and authored the book Nacher Chhele, his practice remains a vital reclamation of the self—a lived testament to the enduring power of a lifelong learner.

A bharatanatyam performance by Patruni Chidananda Sastry.

Part of Rang-e-Hyderabad, Etc. approaches Bharatanatyam not as a fixed form, but as a fluid, shifting language—where the body becomes a site of transformation, questioning, and re-imagination. Built around the pillars of Expression, Transition, and Community, the work moves between tradition and disruption, sharing stories of becoming and resilience drawn from lived experience. It is a choreography of negotiation where the classical form extends beyond structure into a vital inquiry—challenging the boundaries of identity, form, and the traditional gaze through a profound expression of fluidity and solidarity.

Patruni Chidananda Sastry is a dancer, writer, and performance-maker whose practice engages with classical forms through contemporary and critical lenses. Their work draws from theory and embodied practice to reframe how we perceive performance today, reinterpreting the existing borders of the form to speak of diverse human journeys. By
locating the stage as a space for both preservation and inquiry, Patruni uses gesture and presence to navigate the politics of identity and the art of collective care.

Kuchipudi — Bawra: The Madness of Bhakti
A presentation by Nihanthri Reddy and Group.

As part of Rang-e-Hyderabad, Bawra: The Madness of Bhakti explores the concept of Divine Madness — a state where Bhakti moves beyond logical reasoning into a realm of pure surrender. It is an immersive journey of transcendence, through longing and intensity, where madness becomes the only path to union.

Known for her command over rhythm and expressive depth, Nihanthri Reddy, a Hyderabad-based Kuchipudi practitioner, choreographer, teacher, a Guinness, Limca record holder and a postgraduate in Performing Arts (Kuchipudi) from the University of Hyderabad—presents Bhakti not just as a story, but as a lived experience.

Moving through the precision of nritta (pure dance) and the emotional weight of abhinaya (expression), she invites you to a space where structure meets soul.

నిహంత్రి రెడ్డి మరియు బృందం వారి ప్రదర్శన.

Perini Natyam
A presentation by Vaaraahi Natya Kala Nilayam.
Opening the dance stage at Rang-e-Hyderabad, Perini Śivatāṇḍavam emerges as a masterful alignment of rhythm and breath. Rooted in martial tradition and Panchamukha devotion, the performance juxtaposes commanding footwork with the ethereal trance of the five elements. It is a sophisticated embodiment of energy; an alignment of rhythm, breath and movement. A dialogue between discipline and divine invocation.

Presented by Vaaraahi Natya Kala Nilayam, whose practice continues to engage with the form of both preservation and performance.They are a collective of dedicated practitioners engaged in the preservation and practice of Perini Natyam through sustained training and performance.
Their work has been presented at significant cultural and historic spaces — including Ramappa Temple, Omkareshwar (Ujjain), and national platforms — and they have performed before the Honourable Prime Minister of India and the Honourable Chief Minister of Telangana.

Rang Banaras

A Hindustani vocal presentation by the Shanti Swaroop Collective.

Part of Rang-e-Hyderabad, Rang Banaras draws from the musical imagination of the Banaras gharana — where raga unfolds through poetry, improvisation, and lived experience. The work moves between composition and spontaneity, holding the form as both structure and exploration.

Shanti Swaroop is a Hindustani and Carnatic musician, violinist, and musicologist, trained under Dr. N. Rajam, Sanjeev Chimmalgi, Komanduri Seshadri, and Pandit Dr. Prabhakar Kashyap of the Banaras gharana.
Founder of the Shanti Swaroop Gurukulam, his work brings together performance, pedagogy, and inquiry.

Accompanied by Upkar Godbole (harmonium), Vivek Kayal (tabla), with vocal support by Vikash Kumar, Sahil Verma, Trijoy Pal, and Moksha.

Women in Craft — Music & Poetry Edition

A ghazal and thumri presentation by Harini Rao & Friends.

Opening the evening stage at Rang-e-Hyderabad, this presentation moves through the music and poetry of pioneering women — from Meerabai and Mah Laqa Bai Chanda to Gauhar Jaan and Begum Akhtar — tracing lineages that continue to shape the form.

Harini Rao is a Hindustani classical vocalist whose practice spans the architectural expanse of khayal and the interiority of thumri.
Trained under Swati Phadke and now under the guidance of Vidushi Anuradha Kuber and Vidushi Manjusha Patil, her work approaches tradition with clarity, restraint, and lived sensitivity.

Accompanied by Upkar Godboley (harmonium), Saikat Basu (guitar), and Harnadh (tabla).

Drag Sastra / Shoonyam

A book release and film screening by Patruni Chidananda Sastry — expressionist dancer, drag performer, and creator of Kinnara Natyam, a practice that reimagines Indian classical forms through contemporary identity and performance.

Drag Sastra positions drag not as an import, but as something deeply embedded within South Asian performance traditions — from classical frameworks to lived, embodied practices of transformation.

Shoonyam, a silent dance film featuring 29 dancers, shifts into stillness — where the body becomes the only voice, and emptiness becomes a space of reflection.

Together, the works move between theory and experience — asking what performance can become when identity, tradition, and expression are constantly in dialogue.

As part of Rang-e-Hyderabad, this is an invitation to witness performance as both practice and provocation.
